Pandas are killed for the pandas fur which is valuable.

However killing and poaching of pandas has now declined because of new laws about poaching and killing pandas and the awareness by the public.

In the past, pandas were hunted for their valuable furs.

Poaching has declined in recent years, due to new laws and greater public awareness of conservation efforts.

The biggest problem, however, resulted from habitat loss that began in earnest around 1950 when China experienced a population boom.

Pandas are so cute because that is just the way they are made just like human babies are so adorable.

It's likely a feature so that the mother will enjoy the panda just like the mother will enjoy the human baby much more when they are cute.

It's thought that humans find pandas so cute because of the "hedonic mechanisms" their features set off in us.

It's all to do with our brain making us feel a certain love towards pandas.

An increased activity in the middle orbital cortex is usually associated with pleasure and positive emotion.

Some things pandas like to do for fun are play in the trees and also play with enrichment items like piles of ice or sawdust, puzzles made of bamboo with food inside, and different scents like spices.

Giant pandas have unusually thick and heavy bones for their size, but they are also very flexible and like to do somersaults.

Pandas do sometimes live in snow in the wild and most pandas do enjoy playing in and frolicking in the snow.

As it turns out, giant pandas also enjoy frolicking around in the snow.

Native to cold environments, the Smithsonian's giant pandas are among several National Zoo animals active during the winter season.

The mountain temperatures they are acclimated to are highly similar to winter temperatures in D.C.

Pandas do sometimes have twins although most times a panda just gives birth to one panda at a time.

If a panda has twins the mother panda will typically abandon one of the twin pandas because they are not likely to survive.

Pandas can fight and they fight off other pandas and other animals when needed.

Pandas are exceptionally strong bears and can easily win a fight against most animals they come into contact with.

The reason we shouldn't save the pandas as the cost to save the pandas outweighs any benefits of saving the pandas.

Humans have destroyed the pandas habitat; their reproductive and diet inefficiencies, while allowing them a long run of evolutionary success, also left them especially vulnerable to this wave of extinction.

We're at the point of no return where the cost of saving the giant panda has outweighed its chances and benefits.

A pandas fur sorta smells like a dogs fur.

Also pandas can emit smells and odors to mark trees and other things as well which has a stinky and waxy smell.

Pandas can eat meat although pandas mostly eat plants.

A panda's daily diet mostly consists almost entirely of the leaves, stems and shoots of various bamboo species.

However they do branch out, with about 1% of their diet comprising other plants and even meat.

While they are almost entirely vegetarian, pandas will sometimes hunt for pikas and other small rodents.

Pandas don't always die from falls but in some cases pandas can and do die from falls if it's a larger height.

Pandas are adept climbers" that climb and subsequently fall as a form of play.

Panda Bears are pretty lazy bears and even as herbivores, they are exceptionally lazy.

This means pandas spend a lot of their time lolling around.

In the wild, pandas were physically active half the time; in captivity, a third.

Pandas are really dangerous bears when they need to be.

Pandas are strong and have a strong bite and sharp claws that they can maul a person to death with if needed.

Although as long as you don't seem as a threat to the panda and you keep your distance then there's not much to worry about.

Panda bears are really playful in most cases.

Although they can and will turn aggressive and attack if they feel threatened.

So you shouldn't approach a panda bear unless it really knows you really good.

There have been some panda bear attacks on humans but the panda bear attacks on humans are rare.

Although cute and looking cuddly the pandas are bears and built to be aggressive.

Their canines and claws are well developed, and the musculature in their limbs and jaws is sufficient to inflict serious damage.

Indeed, they do harm one another, particularly when males are establishing dominance or competing for females.

Panda babies are born so small because the energy resources of the mother panda are limited which in turn requires the panda babies to be born so small or prematurely.

Pandas also break down muscle mass to feed protein to the fetus.

However, such a process can only be short-lived before it poses a threat to the mother's health.

In other words, the energy resources are limited, so the babies must be born prematurely, resulting in small cubs.

Pandas don't roar although they make other sounds which include huffing, snorting, chomping, honking, bleating, moaning, barking, chirping and yipping.

A giant panda as several different sounds they can make which include huffing, snorting, chomping, honking, bleating, moaning, barking, chirping and yipping.

Pandas do bark somewhat like a dog although the pandas are mostly quiet unless they feel threatened or are bored.

Pandas are usually quiet and solitary animals, but they may use a variety of sounds to communicate to each other.

They may squeak, growl, bark and huff.

Adult giant pandas usually are solitary, so the only language teacher they have is their own mother.

When they grow a little, panda cubs learn how to express themselves by roaring, barking, shouting, squeaking, bleating and chirping.

The barking can be interpreted as “get out of my space.

Pandas can kill you and they have a strong bite and pandas have actually attacked some people although rare.

Though the panda is often assumed to be docile, it has been known to attack humans, presumably out of irritation rather than aggression.

Pandas have been known to cover themselves in horse manure to protect themselves against cold temperatures.

No matter how many adorable videos you've seen of pandas, don't approach a giant panda in the wild.

They have strong grips and can deliver powerful bites that are strong enough to harm a human leg.

Pandas don't usually kill their babies on purpose but sometimes the panda may accidentally kill one or more of their babies.

Also sadly if the panda has twins the panda mother may abandoned one of the twins.

Half of all panda births result in twins, however, it is very rare for both cubs to survive as giant pandas almost always abandon a cub if they give birth to more than one.

Pandas are not hatched from eggs.

Pandas are born like other mammals are but they are born tiny.

Giant pandas are born tiny (about 100g or 4 ounces), blind, white and helpless.

The mother cradles her tiny cub in a paw and doesn't leave the den for several days after giving birth, even to drink.

Although it sounds strange it is true that all panda bears are born as females and without genitalia.

A Panda becomes a male when it receives a fright as strange as it seems.

Male pandas are only created if a panda receives a fright in its first 48 hours of life.

This is why some zoos actually employ panda spookers.

Not only are mothers incredibly protective of the cubs at this age, but pandas are also born without genitalia.

That's not all they're missing at birth.

Newborn giant pandas are almost completely unrecognizable.

Male pandas are approximately 18 percent larger than females.

Male pandas are longer than females, heavier and have stronger forelegs.

Males weigh between 190 and 275 pounds whereas females weight 155 to 220 pounds.
