Although it sounds strange it is true that all panda bears are born as females and without genitalia.

A Panda becomes a male when it receives a fright as strange as it seems.

Male pandas are only created if a panda receives a fright in its first 48 hours of life.

This is why some zoos actually employ panda spookers.

Not only are mothers incredibly protective of the cubs at this age, but pandas are also born without genitalia.

That's not all they're missing at birth.

Newborn giant pandas are almost completely unrecognizable.

Male pandas are approximately 18 percent larger than females.

Male pandas are longer than females, heavier and have stronger forelegs.

Males weigh between 190 and 275 pounds whereas females weight 155 to 220 pounds.

Newborn giant pandas are pink and furless.

The iconic black and white coloring comes later, after about 3 weeks.
