At 8 weeks of pregnancy the fetus has the beginnings of a neck, the upper lip is forming, and there's the suggestion of a button nose.

Tiny eyelids cover tiny eyes, and fingers and toes are developing, though they're still webbed.

Your baby's umbilical cord is visible now, and the intestines are starting to develop inside it.

Hormonal changes in early pregnancy may leave you feeling bloated, similar to the feeling some women have just before their period.

That's why your clothes may feel more snug than usual at the waistline, even early on when your uterus is still relatively small.

At 8 weeks pregnant, showing a bit can be normal, but not showing is, too!

That's because every mom and baby are different.

Know that inside your 8 weeks pregnant belly your uterus is expanding, but it just takes longer for some to show it on the outside.

During pregnancy it's especially important to avoid foods that could contain bacteria, parasites, or toxins – including under cooked meat, unpasteurized soft cheeses, anything that contains raw eggs, sushi made with raw fish, raw oysters, and fish that's high in mercury.

What should I be eating at 8 weeks pregnant?

Aim for at least five portions a day.

Healthy carbohydrate foods such as potatoes, and wholegrain varieties of rice, bread and pasta.

Foods rich in protein, such as lean meat and poultry, fish, eggs and pulses (such as beans and lentils).

Dairy foods, such as milk, cheese and yogurt.
