How do you check for bad wheel bearings on a car?

You can check for a bad wheel bearing by jacking up the car and spin the wheel around by hand and see if there's a little noise.

Also move the wheel up and down and if it moves up and down and there's play in the wheel bearing and wheel shaft then the bearing is bad and needs replaced.
