Yes steam that gets into your face can burn your eyes so you don't want to be near really hot steam.

If you're just in a steamy shower then the water is not hot enough to cause any burns to the eyes or skin.

But if you're around steam coming out of a really hot boiler or your radiator then it could burn your eyes.

That's why you never open a cars or vehicles radiator cap when the radiator is still hot as the steam and the hot coolant can spew out under pressure and burn your skin and your face and burn your eyes and cornea.

Burned corneas do usually heal on their own within a few weeks after the cornea was burned.

The actual time it takes for your cornea to heal after being burned depends on how it was burned and how badly the cornea was burned.

If you got some chemical in your eye and your cornea was slightly burned as a result of that chemical and you flushed that chemical out of your eye soon enough then the burned corneal should heal and repair itself within a few weeks.

More severely burned corneas may take up to a month or even 2 months to fully heal.

It's very important to immediately flush out any chemicals that get into your eyes if they do and always wear eye protection when working around chemicals that could potentially explode or flash into your eyes.

You want to protect your eyes because if you go blind you cannot repair complete blindness once it happens.

Corneas can be transplanted but not the entire eye.

Cornea transplants also known as a Corneal Transplant is a very common eye transplant surgery that is very successful.

There are several cornea transplants being done every month and there's usually no complications from those cornea transplant surgeries.

Around 5 out of 30 corneal transplant patients have rejection of the cornea transplant and then have some serious complications.

But most of those cornea transplants are not rejected and most people have no complications from the cornea transplant.

Eye transplants where part of the eye is transplanted are usually pretty successful.

Some people hear of eye transplants and believe that whole eyes can be transplanted from a dead body and then transplanted into a living persons eye sockets so they can see again.

But sadly a complete eye transplant surgery is not possible.

So a blind person cannot have someone's eyes transplanted from a dead body into them and then see again as that is not possible and likely never will be possible.

Only parts of the eye can be transplanted such as the Cornea.

Corneal Transplants are the most common form of eye transplant and are pretty successful.
