What is the difference between short iron and long iron?

What is considered short iron and what is considered long iron when referring to scrap metal iron?

From my understanding scrap long iron would be unprepared scrap Iron which is longer than 3 FT lengths.

Short Iron would be scrap prepared Iron that is 3 FT long or under and is ready for the scrap Iron smelter.
