The treatment for high lead levels in children is through a medicine.

When the child takes the medicine for the high lead levels it binds with the lead and causes the lead to leave the child's body through the child's urine.

The same is true for adults or anyone with high lead levels.

The normal lead levels in a child should be around 1.4 micrograms per deciliter (µg/dL). 5-14 or less and any higher than that then the lead levels are too high and the child should be seen by a doctor.

When a toddler or child has high lead levels it can be caused by things such as exposure to old paint, water, candy from another country, soil, etc.

A toddler could have eaten some soil which is okay and what some toddlers do and then been exposed to a higher lead level.

The toddler could have touched something else inside an old house or woodwork etc in a house and gotten lead dust on their hands that can't be seen and then the toddler has a high lead level.

If your toddler has too high of a lead level then it could be dangerous so it would be best to take the toddler to urgent care or to the doctor to get checked out.

Long term exposure to lead can damage the brain, kidneys, and bone marrow so if you think your toddler has been exposed to a lot of lead then a medical evaluation would be advised.

The treatment for lead levels is usually through Chelation therapy which the urgent care or doctor can do for your toddler or anyone else exposed to lead.
