Fuel Injection was invented in 1925 by Swedish engineer Jonas Hesselman.

The concept of direct fuel injection has been around since 1925 when Swedish engineer Jonas Hesselman invented it. During WWII, some fighter planes were equipped with direct fuel injection to prevent stalling during high speed aerial maneuvers.

The year 1990 is when they stopped putting carburetors in cars and switched over to fuel injection.

Fuel Injection is so much better and so cars and other vehicles started being made with fuel injection engines which use less fuel.

Also with carburetors they had to be run on choke and warmed up for a few minutes in the really cold weather to function properly or those engines would stall out.

But with fuel injection you can start the vehicle and go but it's still a good idea to allow the engine to warm up a few minutes and get the oil flowing through the engine first.

In the U.S. market, the last cars using carburetors were: 1990 (General public) : Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser, Buick Estate Wagon, Cadillac Brougham, Honda Prelude (Base Model), Subaru Justy. 1991 (Police) : Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor with the 5.8 L (351 cu in) V8 engine.

I still have a truck with a carburetor that is a 1970 Chevy Truck and I do drive it once in awhile but I love my fuel injected truck much better for colder weather.
