Having Down Syndrome does not always shorten the persons life expectancy.

But it is true that some people who have Down Syndrome live a little shorter lifespan than other people without Down Syndrome.

The average life expectancy for someone who has Down Syndrome is around 60 years old to 65 years old.

However there have been people with Down Syndrome who have lived into their 80's and I remember reading about some guy who had Down Syndrome who lived to be 95 years old.

I remember reading about it in our local newspaper about 10 years ago in the obituaries.

So you can live long with Down Syndrome but the average life expectancy is 60 years old when you have Down Syndrome.

It does not mean that everyone who has Down Syndrome will die at that age but some do and some do not.
