To tell if your stomach muscles are separated you can use your hands to feel for any gaps.

Move your hand above and below your bellybutton, and all along your midline ab muscles.

While doing so see if you can fit any of your fingers into the gaps between your muscles.

If you do feel a gap, or separation of one to two finger lengths, you likely have a moderate case of diastasis recti or separated stomach muscles.

The most common symptom of separated stomach muscles which is also known as diastasis recti is a pooch or bulge in your stomach, especially when you strain or contract your abdominal muscles.

Other signs symptoms of separated stomach muscles include, lower back pain, poor posture, constipation

and also bloating.

Diastasis Recti most commonly affects woman after giving birth but it can also affect men and even newborn babies that are born premature.

Most cases of Diastasis Recti go away on their own but if not you can see a doctor about it and even have Diastasis Recti surgery to correct it.
