The very first actual road was built in the year 4000 BC way before cars existed in former Mesopotamia.

But the first modern roads that we drive on today were not built until around the 1940's to 1950's.

However we did have old dirt roads and brick roads back in 1908 or so when we used the old cars and trucks that were built.

Roads were also used before 1900's by horse and buggies to make a good way and path for the horse and buggies to take someone from one place to another.

Before roads people would ride horse and buggies through fields and lands of years ago before the roads got built.

The first highways were built in 1956 which were and are now made for modern car travel.

This is also known as the interstate system and thanks to all the hard work of those men and woman of years ago who made and built the interstate system and old highways we could and can still travel to destinations faster on smoother roads.
