HSV 1 is not sexually transmitted but instead HSV 1 is most commonly transmitted through kissing and oral to oral contact.

The transmission of HSV 1 can lead to oral herpes or cold sores which are caused by the Herpes SImplex Virus also known as HSV 1.

While HSV 1 is not sexually transmitted the HSV 2 is sexually transmitted and you can get the HSV 2 from having sex with your partner who has HSV 2.

If your partner has HSV 1 you should avoid kissing them or you can get the HSV 1 virus yourself and get cold sores.

Although cold sores and the HSV 1 virus is rare serious it can be for some people with weakened immune systems or those who have HIV, AIDS or other health conditions.

Most cold sores do go away though on their own within 1 week to 2 weeks of getting them.
