The kind of paper that checks are printed on is called Check Stock Paper.
Check Stock Paper is compatible and works with most home printers or any other printers and you also need check printing software to print out checks at home.
Checks cannot be printed on regular printer paper.
Although printing checks at home on your regular printer is legal you must use a special check printing paper to print legal checks.
If you print checks out on regular printer paper the checks will not be accepted by any bank or business or by people who are aware of the check printing regulations.

Then just go to your bank and ask the bank for some temporary checks.
These temporary checks are also known as starter checks and are usually free for a few of them but if you need more than a few temporary checks from the bank then their might be a fee.
I've had no issues getting a few temporary checks from my bank when I've run out of regular checks and was waiting on a new order of checks in the mail.
I usually order my checks online which is cheaper and when you order checks from your bank they will usually order your checks from an online check company as well.
