How often should you buy a new mattress?

How often should you replace your mattress? How often do you replace yours?

I only replace mattresses when they really need to be.

I'm using an 8 year old mattress and it still has lots of life left in it. I'm hoping to keep it for another 8 years at least.

The 8 year replacement thing is a myth started by Mattress Manufactures to sell more mattresses.

I've slept on 20 year old mattresses and I've slept just fine.

No point in throwing out a good mattress just because of age.

Mattresses aren't cheap.
