It's pretty safe to leave your campsite unattended and go hiking or whatever you want to do.

When I go camping in a tent I always leave my gear such as camp stove, lantern, sleeping bags, chairs etc at the campsite and it's never been a problem.

Although the stove, lantern and folding chairs I usually place in the tent if I'm gonna be away from the campsite longer than a few hours.

When I have been in my camper trailer I will lock the chairs inside and any valuable things inside the camper and also have a lock on the camper hitch.

Never have had anyone bother anything at my campsite but there's still a possibility just like anywhere else.

If you're in a state park there may be park rangers driving around the state park watching things so that makes it even safer to leave your camping gear out at the campsite without any issues with theft.
