Several things can cause foot pain on the top of the foot.
Some things that can cause foot pain on the top of the foot are poor fitting shoes, running too much, walking too much, standing on your feet too long and even sometimes a foot injury.
Another cause of foot pain on the top of the foot is tendonitis of the muscles which can be inflamed on the top of your foot causing the foot pain.
You may have also sprained your foot some or injured a muscle in the top of your foot.
If the pain on the top of the foot lasts longer than 4 days or seems to get worse then see a doctor about it because sometimes diabetes can cause pain on the top of the foot and even your toes can be painful as well.
The diabetes messes with nerves in your foot and then you can experience pain in the foot and on the top of the foot as well.
Another cause of the pain on the top of the foot is a pinched nerve.
