Using a U.S. Postal Service mailbox as a trash can is illegal and if caught you could face a fine of $10,000.00 or more and possibly a year in jail.

I remember reading in the newspaper about 10 years ago of a guy who was caught dumping trash in one of those blue US mail post office drop off boxes and he was caught.

When he got caught on camera doing so he was arrested and had to serve 1 year in jail and was fined $10,000.00

He never did it again and it's a good thing too because they said next time he would get 10 to 20 years in prison as it's a federal offense to tamper with or vandalize or deposit anything into a US mail box that is not mail.

So never put any trash into a US postal service mailbox as you can and will get into trouble if caught.
