Yes clouds can cause turbulence when flying.

When an airplane is flying through clouds the clouds can cause the planes to experience turbulence because the clouds cause updrafts and downdrafts which result in rapid and unpredictable changes to the lift force on the wings of an aircraft.

However clouds themselves are not always the cause of turbulence on airplanes.

The most common cause of airplane turbulence when flying turbulent air in the atmosphere.

Jet streams and unstable air can trigger sudden changes in wind speed that can rock the plane which is known as turbulence.

Turbulence while scary to some people is usually nothing to worry about and usually within about 10 to 30 minutes or sometimes less the turbulence will be over.
