Some skin grafts are an outpatient procedure and some skin grafts require admission to the hospital for 1 to 2 weeks depending on the skin graft.

If you only need a little skin grafting done then it may be done as an outpatient surgery procedure but if you need more than a little skin grafting done then you will need to stay in the hospital for 1 to 2 weeks.

When you go in for a skin graft you are put to sleep with general anesthesia.

You'll be asleep through the whole skin graft procedure so you won't know what is going on or you should not feel any pain during the skin graft procedure.

Skin graft surgery is usually done due to loss of skin due to due to burns, injury, or illness.

The surgeon and doctors should prepare you beforehand and give you anesthesia so that you fall asleep and are not aware of the skin graft going on.

Depending on how much skin graft surgery is needed the skin graft surgery can take from 1 to 3 hours.

After a skin graft you may need to stay in the hospital for 1 to 2 weeks depending on how much skin graft needed to be done.

The doctors will want to check on you and watch for any signs of infection.
