Although the airbags and seat belts are connected to the computer together and work together during an car crash the airbag still works without you wearing your seat belt.

An airbag will still deploy even when your seat belt is not being worn or fastened.

However if an airbag does go off and you do not have your seat belt on then you could break your ribs or get more serious injuries from the airbag and crash.

The seat belt is supposed to lock up and hold you in place during a crash and then the airbag is supposed to deploy afterwards.

This all happens within a second or two of each other.

Having your seat belt on also prevents you from being thrown out of the vehicle during a crash especially during a roll over crash.

So make sure to always wear your seat belt.

You don't need to wear your seat belt for the airbag to deploy but you do need to wear your seat belt so that you hopefully won't get killed or suffer more severe injuries.
