There's not much you can do to get rid of croup fast or any faster.

Croup usually resolves on it's own within 48 hours even without treatment and as long as the child is breathing okay then there's not much you can do or need to do.

Although you can make sure the child's room is getting enough humidity and also give them drinks such as water, warm tea etc.

And give the child some cough medicine or even some honey.

To treat croup at home you should humidify the room with a cool mist humidifier which can help the child breathe easier.

Also make sure the child is staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water or even some warm tea.

When the child is experiencing croup you should try holding your child in an upright position which can help the child breathe easier.

Give the child some cough medicine or even some honey which is a natural cough medicine and also encourage the child to rest as much as possible.

A fever reducing medicine can also help.

If the croup starts to get worse then take the child to a doctor for treatment but in most cases the croup goes away on it's own within 48 hours to a week at most.

Croup is contagious for up to 3 days after the illness of croup begins and croup remains contagious until the fever has gone away.

So if a child has croup they are to stay home from school or daycare until they are no longer contagious because the croup can easily be spread from child to child.

Croup is caused by viruses that can be spread easily through coughing, sneezing, and respiratory secretions (mucus and droplets from coughing or sneezing).

You can die from croup if the croup gets serious enough although most cases of croup clear up within 48 hours and croup is rarely fatal.

Some symptoms of croup can last as long as 2 weeks but it's rare for a child or anyone to die of croup although it's possible if they have a really hard time breathing.

In some cases croup can be dangerous and lead to breathing difficulties so severe that it requires medical attention and an emergency room visit.

If croup gets serious enough the croup sometimes will cause the airway to swell so much that your child may barely be able to breathe.

In the more severe cases, your child will not be getting enough oxygen into her blood and when and If this happens, the child needs to go to the hospital.

However most cases of croup don't go that far but you still should be aware and if the child starts having more difficulty breathing take the child or the person with the croup to the emergency room right away for treatment or call 911 if needed.
