When your brake pads are really hot on your car then your brake rotors are hot as well.

If the brake pads and brake rotors are really hot then something is wrong with the brakes such as the brake caliper not retracting properly and it needs to be fixed.

Unless the brake pads or brake rotors have gotten red hot and are catching something on fire then you should not put any water on the brake pads or brake rotors.

Putting cold water onto brake pads or brake rotors that are hot can cause thermal shock which can lead to your brake rotors and brake pads cracking.

So you'll do more damage trying to cool off your brake rotors or brake pads when putting water on them.

Just allow the brake pads and brake rotors to cool down on their own.

It should take 30 minutes to 1 hour to allow the brake pads and brake rotors to cool down enough to continue driving the vehicle.

Also brake pads and brake rotors as well as brake drums and brake shoes can get warm to the touch and a little hot because the brake rotors, brake pads and brake drums etc use friction against the metal to stop the vehicle.

That friction naturally does cause some heat which is normal.

But it should not be too hot where you can't touch it with your hand without getting burnt.
