Some dogs do enjoy riding in cars and some dogs hate riding in cars.
I've had one dog that loved going for rides in the car or truck with me and another dog hated the rides and would scratch at the window and cry and whine when he was in the car or truck.
So it's up to the individual dog and if you have a dog that hates car rides and you need to take the dog on a long road trip then you should put the dog in a crate or dog carrier to keep them safe.
But if the dog loves car rides then you can just have them sit in the back seat and some dogs will either sit there just fine or lay down and sleep while on the car ride.
