Yes bald tires do get better gas mileage on your vehicle.

The reason bald tires get better gas mileage is because of less resistance between the tires and the road surface.

This less resistance means it takes less energy from your engine to propel your vehicle down the road so you use less fuel.

That is one of the reasons race cars on the track drive on bald tires because there's less resistance which helps save fuel and also means they can go faster down the track.

However for everyday driving bald tires are not really safe to drive on and should be replaced.

Bald tires can cause you to slide off the road more easily during wet, icy or snowy conditions.

Also it will take your vehicle longer to stop when you're driving on bald tires and you also increase your risk for a tire blowout which can cause a serious or even deadly wreck.
