Should my water heater be turned off when on vacation?

We're going on vacation in a few weeks to visit some family and will be gone for around a month before we return.

Should I turn the water heater off and shut the water off to the water heater as well?

Yes turn your water heater off and shut the water down to the whole house if you're gonna be gone a month or longer.

I went on vacation for a month before and came back to a huge water leak under my house and huge water bill as well.

It's better to have the water shut off instead of coming back home to a flooded house from a leaky water pipe or even a burst water heater.
