Yes your brain can block out traumatic memories eventually through a process called dissociation.

It can take a few years or even 10 years or 20 years to eventually forget the traumatic memories but eventually if you replace those traumatic memories with new fresh good and loving memories then you should be able to forget those traumatic memories.

I've had traumatic memories that eventually my brain has nearly forgotten after a period of 10 years.

Some people are able to forget traumatic memories much sooner.

Then again some people may not ever forget their traumatic memories.

But you need to work on creating new better happy and loving memories to help get rid of those traumatic memories.
