A 2 year old should have between 3 wet diapers to 6 wet diapers a day.
2 year old's should have a minimum of 3 wet diapers per day when properly hydrated and any less than 3 wet diapers per day in a 2 year old can indicate dehydration.
Even having less than 6 wet diapers per day in 2 year old's can sometimes be a sign that your 2 year old may be somewhat dehydrated.
It's also normal in some cases like when the 2 year old is sweating a lot in the summer to have less wet diapers than they would in cooler months when they are not sweating.
It's also normal for a 2 year old to have less wet diapers per day when they are sick, like with a cold or flu for example.
When my kids were 2 they would normally have at least 3 to 6 wet diapers per day, depending on how much they drank and how much they sweat.
In the summer, the number of wet diapers would drop down to at least 3 to 4 wet diapers per day and sometimes when my 2 year old's were really hot and sweating they would only have 2 wet diapers per day or even 1 really wet diaper and the other barely wet at the end of the day.
Their pediatrician said that it was normal and that my 2 year old's were properly hydrated and nothing was wrong.
The pediatrician said that it's normal on occasion for the 2 year old's and other kids in diapers to have less wet diapers when they sweat as they are losing fluids out through sweat that they would normally pee out, which would end up in a diaper.
As long as your 2 year old is getting plenty of water and other fluids to drink and they are having at least 1 wet diaper and a second partially wet diaper in the summertime at times, then they are likely okay.
When they are not as active and not sweating as much or not sweating then the 2 year old should have at least 3 wet diapers per day normally, although even 6 wet diapers is also normal in 2 year old's.
As kids get older they start having less wet diapers per day, even when they are properly hydrated.
Newborns and young babies up to 1 year old have more wet diapers than older toddlers and older kids in diapers.
As the toddler ages they start holding in their pee for longer before they pee, instead of wetting their diaper throughout the day in small amounts.
So for example some 2 year old's and even 3 year old's may hold their pee for 1 hour or even 30 minutes and keep their diapers dry and then pee all at once.
This means that they are gaining bladder control, which is a good thing.
