A college degree is usually not required or needed to become a 911 operator or 911 dispatcher.
To become a 911 operator or 911 dispatcher you do need at high school diploma or at least a GED to get hired as a 911 operator or 911 dispatcher.
You need to know CPR as well and some medical stuff but not as much as an EMT or Paramedic needs to know.
In most places you'll receive on the job training when you get hired as a 911 operator.
You also need to be able to multitask and type fast.
You need to process information and type it into the computer really fast to get the police, fire department, ambulance etc on the way.
When someone calls 911 they can be under stress and panic and may not be speaking clearly but always work with them to calm them down and don't get mad if you can't understand them.
People can be in a bad situation which they usually are when they call 911.
