Lupus is not a contagious disease like many other diseases and so you cannot catch Lupus from someone else who has it.

Lupus is an autoimmune disease and the way that a person gets Lupus is when your bodies immune system attacks healthy tissue in your body.

According to research it appears that a person gets lupus when they have an inherited predisposition for the Lupus disease.

When that happens the person may develop the disease Lupus when they come into contact with something in the environment that can trigger the autoimmune attack.

If someone in your family such as your mom, dad or Grandma or Grandpa or even brother or sister has Lupus then you may be affected as well.
