Fish are still active in cold weather and you can still fish in cold weather and catch fish.

Many fisherman go fishing in cold weather and still catch fish without much issue.

An example would be ice fishing where fisherman drill a hole in the ice and fish through the hole and they usually catch fish.

When going fishing and not just ice fishing it's best to go fishing when it's warm outside because fish are more active in the warm weather than they are in the cold weather.

During cold weather most fish prefer to stay at the bottom of the lake and prefer not to come up to the top of the water unless they need too.

You can still catch fish on a cold day but if you want to increase your chances of catching fish you should go fishing on a warm day.

Fish are cold blooded creatures and because of that their metabolism dips when temperatures drop and the colder it gets the less active the fish become.

I'm not sure the fish will be active when the temperature drops. I think rather the opposite. I recently went fishing with friends in winter and we spent 5 hours there. During this time, they were able to get only 3 fish, while in the summer on this lake you have a chance to catch breakfast for the whole family. I just recently found where I can buy ice fishing tackle boxes, so if your dad needs any of these, I have shared the information with you. Good luck with that!
