A human can in rare cases catch tapeworms from a cat who is infected with them.

However as long as you wash your hands often after touching your cat or avoid the contact with your cat as much as possible when they do have tapeworm then you will likely never catch the tapeworm from your cat.

Tapeworms are not contagious though like colds, flu and other diseases and conditions however if you come into contact with the cat who has tapeworms then they may transmit the tapeworms from them to you the human.

But it's rare that a human does get tapeworms from cats.

Still I would be very cautious when you know the cat has tapeworms and avoid touching them or coming into close contact with the cat until the cat no longer has tapeworms.

Another cat may get the tapeworms as well if there is more than one cat in the house.
