A stretched timing chain should last between 5,000 to 20,000 miles and sometimes longer.

But if you do know that your timing chain is stretched and you can easily replace the stretched timing chain yourself then replace it before it breaks and leaves you stranded.

Timing chains typically last between 40,000 to 150,000 miles before they start to wear out and stretch to the point of needing replaced.

Some people have had timing chains last for 300,000 miles but if you already have the timing chain in your view then replace it to prevent problems.

It's a real pain to replace a timing chain so I would replace it when I had time and to prevent having a breakdown which would cost me a tow bill which would be more than the new timing chain.

Replace the gears along with the timing chain to prevent future problems.
