When checking your engine oil you should keep the engine oil to the full mark on the dipstick.

I check my engine oil every 2 gasoline fill ups to be sure that the engine oil is kept at the correct level.

If your engine oil level is above the safe mark then it's safe to drive the vehicle but if you have some oil it's best to top off the engine oil until it's full.

Just don't overfill the engine oil because overfilling the engine oil can lead to your engines crankshaft sloshing the oil around which turns into foam.

Then your bearings will not get lubricated properly and then you'll get a spun bearing.

But if you overfilled the engine oil by a 1/2 quart or less then it's usually not an issue.

My truck leaks a bit of oil so I keep it at least a 1/2 quart above the full mark because it will drop down a bit as I drive.
