Kids should be potty trained by at least age 4 or 5 years old.

A kid needs to be out of diapers and potty trained during the day before they go to preschool or kindergarten as they cannot enroll in kindergarten when they are still wearing diapers full time.

Also other kids in the child's school will tease the child when they are still wearing diapers and are not using the toilet.

Some kids are ready to potty train and stop wearing diapers as early as age 18 months and some kids are not ready to potty train and use the toilet and stop wearing diapers until 2 or 3 years old.

I wasn't potty trained myself until I was 3 years and 6 months old.

My mom says that I just decided to stop wearing diapers at that age and went to the toilet.

She said she tried potty training me earlier at 18 months and even at 2 years old but she gave up and put me back in diapers and let me decide when to potty train.

I eventually decided I hated wearing diapers and wanted to use the potty.

Some kids will decide on their own to stop wearing diapers and go on the potty so I wouldn't push it unless they are nearing 5 years old and still wearing diapers.

Of course if the child has incontinence or other mental disabilities then they may have to wear diapers longer and that's okay as well.

But if the child can use the toilet and is not incontinent then they should stop wearing diapers during the day by age 5 at the latest.

Sooner than that though is recommended.
