Most cases of upper back pain usually last between a few days to as long as 1 to 2 weeks depending on the severity of the upper back pain.

Even for the most severe upper back pain it should go away within 2 weeks and if not you should see a doctor about the upper back pain.

Taking some aspirin or Ibuprofen or using a heating pad can help ease the upper back pain.

Also taking a hot shower or soaking in a nice hot bath or soaking in a hot tub can help ease the back pain as well.

Upper back pain is usually caused by things such as overuse, muscle strain, or injury to the muscles, ligaments, and discs that support your spine.

Some more causes of upper back pain or even back pain in general are poor posture and pressure on the spinal nerves from certain problems, such as a herniated disc.

See a doctor if the upper back pain doesn't go away within a few weeks or if the upper back pain gets worse.
