Yes maggots can be used and are still sometimes used to clean peoples wounds out.

The doctor can get you maggots through prescription so that you can use the maggots to clean your wounds if needed.

The maggots do a very good job at cleaning wounds and maggots for cleaning wounds have been done for years and it's because it does work and your wounds heal faster with the use of maggots.

This is known as maggot therapy.

Maggot therapy is a type of biotherapy involving the introduction of live, disinfected maggots (fly larvae) into the non-healing skin and soft tissue wound(s) of a human or animal for the purpose of cleaning out the necrotic (dead) tissue within a wound (debridement) and disinfection.
