The flu virus can live for up to 8 to 12 hours on fabric.

Flu viruses can live for one to two days on nonporous surfaces, and 8 to 12 hours on porous surfaces.

Nonporous surfaces are things such as metal, plastic, glass etc.

Porous surfaces would be things like clothing, bedding, mattresses, pillows, pillow cases, teddy bears, stuffed animals etc.

If you have the flu or someone else has the flu you should wash the bedding and disinfect things such as teddy bears, toys etc that a child plays with while they have the flu.

If your baby or toddler has the flu and is sucking on a pacifier make sure to disinfect the pacifier by dipping the pacifier in boiling water and do the same with sipping cup lids and baby bottle nipples to kill the flu virus.
