Potatoes should be dug up out of the ground when they become ready to dig up so that they don't get too old and then become bad.

Leaving potatoes in the ground too long can lead to them rotting out eventually so it's best to dig the potatoes up when they are ready.

Potatoes will be ready to dig up when the foliage of the potato plant has withered and died back.

When that happens the potatoes are matured enough and are ready to be dug up.

After planting potatoes it usually takes around 10 to 15 weeks for the potatoes to become ready enough to eat but you should wait until the foliage of the potato plant has withered and died back which means they are ready.

Potatoes do best when planted in full sun areas where they can get the most sunlight.

Potatoes do grow pretty good in areas where there are partial sunlight and some shade but if possible plant the potatoes in an area that gets a lot of sunlight because they will do much better that way.

The plant above ground feeds the tubers and potatoes down under the ground so it's best to give the potato plants a lot of sunlight so that they grow better and faster.

When you're growing potatoes at home in a garden be sure to make sure the soil stays moist and when the soil that the potatoes are growing in becomes dry it's time to water the potatoes.

Potatoes usually need a good watering about every 4 to 5 days unless the weather is hotter and the soil dries out more often.

Give the potatoes at least 1 inch of water which takes around 30 minutes to water with a sprinkler or about 15 to 20 minutes with a garden hose.

I usually just set out a sprinkler and let the sprinkler water the potatoes and other garden foods and plants for at least 30 minutes.

I water in the morning before it gets too hot so that the plants do not get burnt and so that the water doesn't evaporate.
