How long should a wood deck last?

A good quality wood deck should last between 10 to 15 years as long as you water seal the wood deck and stain the wood deck at least once per year.

If you don't properly maintain the wood deck then it may not last any longer than 5 or 7 years but if maintained the wood deck should easily last at least 15 years and sometimes as long as 20 years.

My wood deck is 15 years old and so far it still looks like it has another 10 years to go before I would need to replace it.

But I've stained it constantly and have put water seal on the deck every year as well and it has helped to preserve the wood deck.

Even though this deck may last awhile longer I plan to tear this deck up in a few more years and make a bigger deck using some composite decking material that requires really no stain or water seal to preserve it.
