A baby can usually sit up on their own without support by 4 to 6 months of age but it depends on the baby.

Before 4 months of age the baby needs to be propped up with a pillow or something or be held up by the parent or someone caring for the baby.

After 4 months of age most babies can sit up unassisted but it can vary from baby to baby.

When the baby can sit up unassisted they can then be placed in a highchair for feeding which makes it easier to feed the baby.

Still you need to supervise the baby while in the highchair or sitting anywhere else but my kids started sitting up on their own by 4 months of age.
