Car tires have a lifespan of between 40,000 to 60,000 miles before the tread wears down and they need replaced.

However tires should be replaced after 10 years regardless of the tread wear because the rubber on the tires age and start to crack and the steel starts to separate from the tire that can lead to a blowout which can cause a deadly crash.

You should inspect your tires every 6 months and if they are getting past 5 years in age then you might want to consider replacing them with new tires.

Especially if you plan to go on a long road trip the tires should be replaced.

Tires that are past 5 years old are nearing time to replace them as most people rack up 40,000 to 60,000 miles in 5 or 6 years depending on how much driving you do.
