Why is the retirement age 65?

I find this ridiculous as there are many people over 65 who are capable of working (whom i know of). the age should be 75, or even 80. this is a problem as people are living longer, and therefore the "senior" population is too big.

I'm sure if you got to age 65 you'd want to retire and enjoy life without working all the time.

It's nice to be able to just lounge on the couch or in a lazyboy recliner and watch tv sometimes.
