Should microwave ovens get hot on the top and sides?

I bumped into my microwave while it was cooking some food today and noticed that it was getting hot on the sides of it and on top?

Is it normal for microwave ovens to get hot on top and the sides?

I've had this microwave for 3 years now and never noticed it getting hot around the outside.

When microwaves cook food they produce heat and it's normal for the outer case of the microwave to get hot.

Nothing to worry about. Your microwave is still very safe.
