Some internal medicine doctors do Pap smears since they are family doctors or primary care physicians.

My internal medicine doctor did a Pap smear for me.

However one time I was referred to a gynecologists at a different doctors office by one doctor so that I could get the Pap smear done.

It depends on the doctor but most internal medicine doctors do Pap smears but if not they just send you to a different doctor known as a gynecologist.

Or you may be referred to another doctor known as a Internist who can do diagnostics such as physical examinations, bone-density testing, cholesterol testing and the pap smears.
