A car battery can usually sit in the car without starting the engine for 2 to 3 months before it gets fully discharged.

If the weather is cold the car battery could die within a few weeks to a month without starting the engine.

If you have a car that sits more often then it drives down the road and you want to keep the battery charged up you should start it at least once per week and take it on a 20 to 30 minute drive around town or on the highway to get the battery charged up.

You can't drive the car then you should place a trickle charger on the battery for a few days a week to allow the battery to keep it's charge.

If the battery is older than 5 years old then it is about time to replace it as it's gonna eventually leave you stranded somewhere.
