If your area gets enough rain during the spring months or at least during early spring then there's no need to water the lawn at that time.
However if you don't get enough rain in early spring or the spring months then it would be a good idea to water the lawn in spring.
I start watering my lawn around March 1st because it sometimes is warm enough here on those days for the lawn to be watered.
I like keeping my grass looking nice and green and watering it as early as March helps keep the grass healthy.
I then water the lawn throughout the summer months as well but only in the evenings or night because the heat can evaporate the water.
As soon as it gets warm you can start watering your lawn.
