Roaches can bite people and cause rashes and bite marks if they do crawl on the person.
However I've personally never been bitten by any cockroaches and I've had cockroaches in apartments when I was renting.
I've had roaches crawl in bed with me before and that made me leave that apartment for good but they never bit me.
However the roaches can bite people if they want too but they are not that harmful but still you may have a rash or other bite mark from them.
Still though you should do your best to get the roaches out of your house or apartment etc because the roaches can cause diseases and make you sick especially if the roaches contaminate your food.
If roaches get into any of your food you should throw it out because it's not safe to eat.
