Most cases of sprained ankles do not cause any permanent damage and heal up completely and it's like it never happened.

However in rare cases some people who have a sprained ankles may have ligaments that may fail to heal properly and become weak, or there may be some damage the sprained joint itself or some other structure nearby.

I've sprained my ankle 5 times during my childhood and teen years and even adult years and no permanent damage has occurred from the sprained ankle.

The sprained ankle healed completely within a few months and it was like I never sprained my ankle to begin with.

If the sprained ankle seems to get worse or is not healing properly within a month or two then you should see your doctor or go to the urgent care center or emergency room if the pain is getting worse.
