Unplugging appliances would only save electricity if those appliances used some electricity while plugged in.

For example a microwave would use a tiny bit of electricity to keep the digital display going if your microwave has that.

But the electricity is so minimal that the effort to unplug and plug the microwave back in really is not worth it.

You would likely only save maybe 10 cents by unplugging the microwave when not in use.

However things such as refrigerators should not be unplugged because it will cause food to spoil and cost you more money that you would save.

The appliances that do use some electricity while plugged in use very little electricity that it's hardly noticeable on the electric bill.
