Train accidents aren't as common as car or truck accidents and riding a train is usually considered much safer than driving or riding in a car.
On average there are 5,800 to 6,000 train accidents per year and those are not all passenger train accidents but also just regular freight trains that get into accidents.
It's very rare that a passenger train gets into an accident but just like any other mode of transportation they can get into accidents.
Out of these train accidents about there are about 600 deaths and injuries to about 2,300 people per year.
There's more than that amount of people injured or killed in car and truck accidents every year than there are in train accidents.
